In this article I'm going to discuss some of the major and common issues pertaining to installation/running of one of the most renown RTS (Real-Time Strategy) WWII-based game series - Company of Heroes (often abbreviated as CoH). The game was released by Relic Entertainment in collaboration with THQ in 2006 and later its standalone expansion pack 'Opposing Fronts' was released in 2007 (abbreviated as CoH:OF) followed by second standalone expansion pack 'Tales of Valor' in 2009 (abbreviated as CoH:ToV). The publishers have stringently protected this game series via CD key verification as well as usable media verification system in order to ensure that ONLY legitimate owners can get access to the purchased retail CD/DVD.

However, the publishers simply left out of consideration the legitimate owners of retail CD/DVD who wanted to backup their game in image formats (.ISO/.FLT, etc.) or who, in severe circumstances, lost the source media of game (CD/DVD), they won't ever be able to successfully install/run their game again for which they have really dearly paid. Having considered one of these issues, this article revolves around the question of running this game via backup image (.ISO/.FLT, etc.) on the system as well as manually patching the game for upgrade purpose. NOTE: Owners of Direct2Drive via Steam should not have any issues regarding patching the game as it will be done automatically once got connected to their servers over Internet.

First, let's have a look at the details of retail copy of each game in this series: Company of Heroes - Original (2006) CPU: Pentium 4/Athlon XP or better CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz RAM: 512 MB OS: Windows XP Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 3 or an ATI Radeon 8500 or equivalent with 64 MB of Video RAM. It must also support Pixel Shader 1.1. Hello sammoss, I have never experienced such sort of issue with this game. However, with no exception, there could be such issues prevailing and maybe it's the time when you got caught in one.

There could be many reasons why have you been experiencing this issue which you may take in account the OS what you have or the patch upgrades whether you did or not before playing this game. I had installed this game along with its expansion pack United Offensive; finished all the missions in one go without having noticed any problem like this. I have Windows 7 (x64) Home Premium and I upgraded the game with official patch to version 1.5 before getting my hands on it. However, I have noticed one thing that games that were published before 2005 always gave sort of problem in OS compatibility; therefore, as a fail-safe method I always set the OS compatibility for the game which was originally released for. For this game, I had set the OS compatibility as Win XP SP2 for each and every executable files in the game installation directory after having installed the game.

Secondly, it's always better to install these previous-version-of-Windows-based games by directly exploring through the CD/DVD content and clicking on 'setup.exe' file instead of simply using 'Install the program' in 'Autoplay' option. After that, I upgraded the game with the highest ever released patch which was version 1.5 for CoD 1. Then, in order to get rid of the problem of loading the CD/DVD in tray everytime I wished to play the game, I replaced the original patched exe image with no-CD/DVD exe image fix with the same version of 1.5. I played through each and every mission except a wee problem I had experienced where I had manually Saved a mission and then attempted to Load the game at some point gave me a crash with resultant effect of game being simply stopped responding and then got closed and when I tried to reload from the same point after relaunching the game, it worked. Here, this issue you might experience as well if you play this game on Windows 7 (x64) which I think is not a major one as it won't stop you from letting you play this game for long.

This could be because of change in OS platform which this game has not been made for and it finds it difficult to fit in and causes this short crashes. Anyway, taking in account all of these possible assumptions what I can think up, I can advise you to follow these steps as I did for installing this game and it shouldn't be any harm if you use some 'crack' even though you own a retail copy of CD/DVD of this game. I'm enclosing you with the official patch and same version of no-CD/DVD exe image fix in the undermentioned link from where you can download and then simply move your saved game Profile folder for fresh game installation directory and trying running the game after the point of mission where you experience this crash. I hope it should solve your problem. Thanks GRV-81 I'll give it a shot. I have the same OS as you do.

Last time I ran CoD1 Deluxe Edition( published 2003-2004) didn't think to patch it up and knew nothing of no cd.exe's. I am a late starter on pcs got my first one in 2011 and it has been a learning curve ever since. Luckily I've met some old hands on TeamSpeak that started gaming from day one and have shown me the ropes, heck they still fly Crimson Skies! And game all the way to Assassin's Creed Black Flag with everything in between. Your WWII game tips are great keep up the good work!

Just installed it and found the retail version is 1.3SP & 1.5MP but the no cd.exe doesn't work for some reason. Tried running the patch and it of course it said 'you already have the latest version.' Tried setting compatibility to XP SP2 but it crashed had to go back to XP SP3 to get it to launch. Any ideas on the no cd.exe? Checked other sites for another one and they're all the same. I did use the setup.exe in the cd. Resolution settings are either too low or too high grrr.

Got a feeling it's going to do the same thing crash after Tirpitz as nothing has really changed from the first install. I have a Radion HD 6870 and tried putting the latest atioglxx.dll from the driver (v13.12) but that didn't work either I wonder if older.dll's will work any thoughts on that? Hello sammoss, First of all, I can tell you since you started discussing on this game I got initiated one more time and installed this game on my system as well. However, I have not yet reached to the point where you had experienced crash but I remember good when I played this game last time I finished it without any issues of crash as you have mentioned. I can't figure out why you're unable to use the no-CD exe fix. I own independent versions of CoD and its expansion pack rather Deluxe Edition.

It's odd that even after having patched the final version patch of 1.5 (which of course would include all the features of previous versions including for SP) you're experiencing the crash. Since you have got the OS as of mine which is Win 7 (x64) Home Premium then all the settings what I have recommended to you should work fine except slight random crashes you might experience only in case if you manually Save the game and then attempt to Load it. Also, I don't think that you may need to replace any *.dll files in the original game installation directory for whatsoever reason. The fact is that we are going to run a game that was released back in 2003 with all outdated resources containing in it and we just need to make it compatible on our OS instead of doubting on the drivers for GFX or whatsoever components needed to run this game. Anyways, having considered your problem and the prior troubleshooting you already did, I can try to suggest you few things which you may want to work out in order to overcome this hurdle. Proceed in the way as I've numbered the solutions. As I have already mentioned that while trying to run this game on Win 7 (x64) you will experience slight random crashes only due to the reason if you manually Save the point and attempt to Load it.

This can be solved simply deleting that unfortunate Saved point through your Save/Load game menu and reload the prior Save or Autosave point that was working fine. Having borne this thing on your mind, try to Load the previous Autosave or Save point on your game prior to the mission where you experience crash (Tirpitz mission) and attempt reaching to this mission freshly. This trick works good on the rationale that you're going to simply eradicate the crash versions of Save points in game. This I often had to use whenever I experienced random crashes in manual Save points.

If the above solution still doesn't work for you then it simply implies you're experiencing an in-built bug in the game that was shipped to you. Here, I can suggest you to get this game in independent versions with its expansion pack if you are really desperate to finish this game. For free help in this regards, you can give me your e-mail and I'll provide you with best and easy resources to get this game. If you want to give a try by upgrading this game with patch 1.3 instead of 1.5 along with relevant no-CD exe image, you can find the download link here: I hope this should resolve your problem. With all good regards, GRV-81. Hello sammoss, This note is an addendum to the one I wrote you before.

One more thing just struck in my my mind that when do you do the fresh install of your Deluxe Edition could you tell me what version it has? As you said when you attempted to patch it with 1.5 you got the display message that 'You already have latest version.' If you don't know how to check the version, do the following and you'll be able to retrieve the actual retail version of your game. Click Start (Windows Button) at the right bottom side; 'Start Menu' will open displaying the preference of the few programs you have on your system. At the bottom of the Start Menu, you'll see a 'Search Box' with hint of ' Search program and files'. Type regedit in it and click OK in User Account Control for permitting it to open Registry Editor. Under the upside down tree of 'Computer' follow this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Wow6432Node Activision Call of Duty.

By clicking on this folder Call of Duty you'll see lot of details on the right hand side of pane about Publisher, CD key, etc. And lastly Version.

If you see some other version than 1.0 simply right click on the Version heading and then click Modify. Cara Ganti Boot Screen Windows 7 Tanpa Software Downloads more. On the resultant pop-up dialog box. Another pop-up box will appear with heading Edit String in which under the Value data field change the value to 1.0.

Confirm the changes and close the Registry Editor. Now, you can first try to upgrade the game with patch version 1.3 if you want to test and think of later upgrading it to version 1.5 or simply patch it with version 1.5. (Important is that you got to apply the patch preferably version 1.5 as what I think because never tested the game with version 1.3.) 10.

Apply the corresponding version of no-CD exe image fix and trying playing the mission where you experience the crash. I hope this should really get you out of this issue.

With all good regards, GRV-81. My game flash screen shows version 1.3 on SP and version 1.5 on MP menus at the bottom right hand corner. Just checked the wow6432node as per your post and it is 1.5b so obviously it came patched up from Activision as I bought it in 2011. I looked for and found several no cd.exe 1.0 1.3 1.5 and none of 'em launch the game for some reason. Odd as the other games I have like CoD2 the no cds work as do other games that I have on CD/DVD. If I read your post correctly I should change the 1.5b to 1.0 then use the patch you supplied if I am still correctly thinking will take it from 1.0 to 1.5 I'm thinking the patch that came with the game is some how different than the stand alone 1>1.5 patch; just thinking out loud. Then the no cd may work I'll try it and get back to ya.

Hello sammoss, Exactly this is what you got to do. If it shows v1.5b then it's a beta version - an early untested version of patch than what is the latest and final one and no big deal if it could be buggy especially at the point of the specific mission where it crashes. Yes, in my opinion, simply change the value data back to v1.0 in registry editor and then apply the patch v1.5 what I have sent to you. This way even if your game is already patched with v1.5b with the roll back version to v1.0 in registry editor the game wizard will again let you run the manual patch v1.5. Then simply replace the updated original exe image with no-CD exe fix of v1.5.

I have a feeling this time this shot would be a bull's eye. With all good regards, GRV-81 P.S. Mention not for sparing my time to respond you back. I'm also one of you who used to have problems and issues on games. It's good to help people.:).

• EaW is a historical mod for Company of Heroes that adds new battlefronts with new commander trees, abilities, units, vehicles and weapons for each, representing in the best way, as far as possible, historical accuracy, to immerse players in a much more realistic gaming experience. Situated on a Western theatre from the warm sands of north africa, italian battlefields, beaches of Normandy, Dutch Tulip fields, the muddy scheldt, the ardennes forests and the defensive lines of the Rhine in germany. (may be considered a '7 in 1' mod ) Command the 8th British Army or Rommel's DAK.

Three new doctrines for each army and new real units prepared for combat in the desert. Tanks and anti-tank can yield the maximum in the great plains of sand, but we must not neglect the sky: the RAF and the Luftwaffe are in constant fight for the air domain. Allied troops landed in Italy from sea and air. During this long campaign the Allied and Axis forces fought fiercely for every hill and every village. Companies just have very few heavy tanks due to the mountainous terrain. Defenses, aviation and artillery are imposed.

Paratroopers were dropped far from their objectives and scattered, even so achieved most of its objectives. Landing troops took heavy losses on the beaches but finally forced the withdrawal of the defenders. Hedges became death traps for the infantry and Shermans.

The German anti-tank and machine guns were hiding in any corner. The Luftwaffe was almost nonexistent and allied air supremacy makes the difference against the powerful axis tanks. What at first seemed a perfect plan became hell for the Men of the XXX corps. The paratroopers met their targets quite effectively, but were isolated from the armored support, fighting with heavy casualties until run out of ammo. The only American troops (82nd &101st; airborne) are dropped more near and could join the British tanks, but the German ambushes on Highway 69 delayed the progress and finally stopped the offensive. The plan for opening the estuary involved four main operations. The first was to clear the area north of Antwerp and secure access to South Beveland.

The second was to clear the Breskens pocket behind the Leopold Canal, and the third was the capture of South Beveland. The final phase would be the capture of Walcheren Island. Early morning, following heavy artillery bombardment, a large German force has penetrated US positions in the Ardennes Forest in Belgium and Luxemburg. Allied HQ is hastily rushing reinforcements to the area, to counter the surprise attack and prevent them from crossing Meuse river. Patton and Montgomery armies prepare to cross the Rhine, trying to secure the bridges, using boats and floating bridges. Gathered ammunition, soldiers and tanks. The artillery constantly bombard the opposite river bank, while the German divisions were entrenched to resist attack.

The axis used the remains of the Luftwaffe, artillery and V1 rockets to try to destroy the remagen bridge, but without success. At this stage were used late tanks like the Jagdtiger, the M26 pershing or the T26E1 Super pershing. FEATURES -More realistic damage system.

On December 16, 1944, the largest battle the US Army had ever fought in history began among the snow-covered evergreens of the Ardennes forest in Belgium. US intelligence had determined that the Ardennes sector was ideal for the rest and reorganization of American combat infantry units, since, by their research, it was defended by limited-service veterans, severely wounded soldiers missing an arm or an eye, too young or too old to pose a serious threat. As a result, the Army used this area for the training of newly arrived, untested infantry divisions fresh from the States.

In reality, 30 of Germany’s crack divisions were forming up for a counter offensive designed to cut the Allied army in two, and ultimately capture the port of Antwerp. It was the first time in the war that the US Army faced such a well equipped German attack of this magnitude. In combination with a spell of poor weather, German tanks rolled unhindered by Allied air attacks and caught most GIs at the front completely by surprise. The US 106th Infantry division was encircled in the opening hours of the attack, leaving two out of three soldiers killed or captured. GIs up and down the line were in full retreat, with the exception of isolated, scattered groups of tenacious soldiers, fighting to delay the German onslaught.

What the Allied command first thought to be a German counter attack was now confirmed as a major offensive. Units from all over France were rushed to reinforce the “bulge” in the line. Confronted with a manpower shortage, local commanders on the scene began forming provisional infantry units. Soldiers serving in support roles, such as cooks, mechanics, etc., were sent to the front as riflemen. The Germans had pushed 60 miles beyond American lines before their advance was checked, which finally happened after Patton’s Third Army arrived toward the end of December, and the weather broke, allowing US flight operations to resume.

By January 28, 1945, the Americans had pushed the Germans back to their initial positions of December 16, 1944. Nearly one million soldiers were engaged during the six-week battle, resulting in 67,000 American and more than 100,000 German casualties.

Finally, EaW incorporates the Ardennes front: More than 30 new historical maps, uniforms and winter camouflage, new commander trees adapted to the historical period, winter climates.and a Single palyer campaign! Four armies available to recreate one of the great battles of the Second World War. Gather warm clothes soldiers!
